The History of Minnesota Wild Hockey at Xcel Energy Center

The NHL Hockey season is underway, and the Minnesota Wild are all set for the puck drop! Since 2000, Xcel Energy Center has been the team’s home ground, capable of accommodating nearly 18,000 hockey fans. The venue is in Downtown St. Paul, the home of Triple-A Baseball’s Saints. Xcel Energy Center is approximately 20-25 minutes from Minneapolis, the home of the MLB’s Twins, NFL’s Vikings, NBA’s Timberwolves, and WNBA’s Lynx.

The Wild has qualified for the playoffs nine times since the 2012-2013 season. In fact, they played in the 2003 Western Conference Finals but unfortunately lost to the then-Anaheim Mighty Ducks. Recently, Kirill Kaprizov won the Calder Trophy for the NHL’s top rookie during the 2020-2021 season. The team has not won the Jack Adams Award (Coach of the Year) since Jacques Lemaire during the 2002-2003 campaign.
