Full Story on Tom Arth Being Fired as Akron Zips Head Coach

With Tom Arth gone, now is the time for the University of Akron to make a list of top candidates. In fact, the recognizable applicants could be qualified to become the team’s new head coach for the 2022 Season. Akron fired Arth after nearly three seasons following their loss vs. Ball State. Associate Head Coach Oscar Rodriguez will coach the Zips on an interim basis. Arth compiled a 3-24 overall record and 2-17 in the Mid-American Conference. At the time of the firing announcement, the Zips were 2-7 overall (1-4 in the conference) during the 2021 season.

During his time in Ohio, Tom Arth was not able to lead the Zips to any bowl games. In fact, Akron has not been to a bowl game nor finished with a winning record since 2017 (7-7). Also, the Zips have not won a bowl game since the 2015 Idaho Potato Bowl. Prior to becoming the Akron head coach in 2019, Arth held similar positions with John Carroll (2013-2016) and Chattanooga (2017-2018).
