Full Story on Justin Fuente Being Fired as Virginia Tech Hokies Football Head Coach
With Justin Fuente gone, now is the time for the Virginia Tech Hokies to make a list of top candidates. In fact, the recognizable applicants could be qualified to become the team’s new head coach for the 2022 Season. Virginia decided to fire Fuente after six seasons following their victory vs. Duke. Defensive Line Coach J.C. Price will guide the Hokies on an interim basis. Fuente compiled a 43-31 overall record and 28-20 in the Atlantic Coastal Conference. At the time of the firing announcement, the Hokies were 5-5 overall (3-3 in the conference) during the 2021 season. Fuente took over the Virginia Tech gig from long-time head coach Frank Beamer (who coached the Hokies from 1987 until 2015).
During his time in Blacksburg, Justin Fuente guided the football program to four bowl games. In fact, he had one 10-win season under his belt at Virginia Tech (2016: 10-4). However, the Hokies have not won a bowl game since the 2016 Belk Bowl. In addition, Virginia Tech has not been to a bowl game since the 2019 Belk Bowl. Prior to becoming the Hokies head coach in 2016, Fuente held similar positions for the Memphis Tigers (2012-2015). He was also the co-Offensive Coordinator for the TCU Horned Frogs (2009-2011).
