Mississippi State decided to dismiss Arnett after nearly one season under the helm. At the time of the firing, the football program was 4-6 to start the season (1-6 in conference play). The school will provide Arnett an approximate $4 million buyout as part of the coaching change. Offensive Assistant Coach Greg Knox will become the interim coach for the remainder of the 2023 campaign.
Zach Arnett’s Career with the Mississippi State Bulldogs
The former head coach took over the reins late last season following the sudden passing of Mike Leach. Arnett led the Bulldogs to a ReliaQuest Bowl victory in his first game vs. Illinois. After that season, Mississippi State finished at #20 in the Associated Press rankings. However, the promising future diminished when MSU lost six out of their last eight games.
