Full Story on Rod Carey Being Fired as Temple Owls Football Head Coach
With Rod Carey gone, now is the time for the Temple Owls to make a list of top candidates. In fact, the recognizable applicants could be qualified to become the team’s new head coach for the 2022 Season. Temple University dismissed Carey after three seasons following their loss vs. Navy. WR/Passing Coach Thad Ward will coach the team on an interim basis. Carey compiled a 12-20 overall record and 7-16 record in the AAC Conference. At the time of the firing announcement, the Owls were 3-9 overall (1-7 in the conference) during the 2021 season. Temple started the season 3-2, but ended up losing their next seven games.
During his time in Philadelphia, Rod Carey guided the Owls to one bowl game: 2019 Military Bowl. However, Temple went on to achieve two losing seasons following their 2019 success campaign. The Owls have not won a bowl game since the 2017 Gasparilla Bowl. Prior to becoming the Temple head coach in 2019, Carey held a similar position at Northern Illinois (2012-2018).
