Full Story on Jay Norvell Stepping Down as Nevada Wolf Pack Football Head Coach
With Jay Norvell gone, now is the time for the Nevada Wolf Pack to make a list of top candidates. In fact, the recognizable applicants could be qualified to become the team’s new head coach for the 2022 Season. Norvell will be stepping down as Nevada Head Coach after five seasons before their bowl appearance in the Quick Lane Bowl vs. Western Michigan. He will become the new head coach for the Colorado State Rams, replacing Steve Addazio. Vai Taua, Running Backs Coach, will guide the Wolf Pack on an interim basis. Norvell compiled a 33-26 overall record and 23-17 record in the Mountain West Conference. At the time of the sudden announcement, the team was 8-4 overall (5-3 in the conference) during the 2021 season. Nevada lost two of their last three games following a 7-2 start to the campaign.
During his time in Reno, Jay Norvell led the Wolf Pack to four bowl games. In fact, Nevada won two bowl games: the 2018 Arizona Bowl vs. Arkansas State and 2020 Famous Idaho Bowl vs. Tulane. However, the team has not won ten games or over in a season since 2010 (13-1). Prior to becoming the Nevada head coach in 2017, Norvell was the WR Coach for Oklahoma (2008-2014), Texas (2015), and Arizona State (2016).
