Full Story on David Culley Being Fired as Houston Texans Head Coach
With David Culley gone, now is the time for the Houston Texans to make a list of top candidates. In fact, the recognizable applicants could be qualified to become the team’s new head coach for the 2022 Season. Houston dismissed Culley after just one season following their season finale loss vs. Tennessee Titans. Offensive Coordinator Tim Kelly was also given the pink slip. Culley compiled a 4-13 overall record with no playoff appearances. At the time of the firing announcement, the Texans were in 3rd place in the AFC South Division over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Houston lost some of its star players over the past couple years as the club traded WR DeAndre Hopkins to the Arizona Cardinals. Also, DE J.J. Watt was released via demand and joined Hopkins with the Cardinals. Even the quarterback situation is uncertain as Deshaun Watson sat out the entire 2021 season.
David Culley’s Career with Houston Texans & NFL
During his time in the Lone Star State, David Culley joined the other one-season head coaches: Urban Meyer (Jaguars-2021) and Bobby Petrino (Falcons-2007). In fact, the Texans have not been to the playoffs since 2019. To make matters worse, Houston is the only NFL team that has never played in the Conference Championship Game. Prior to becoming the Texans head coach in 2021, Culley was the Associate Head Coach for the Baltimore Ravens (2019-2020). He also served as the QB Coach for the Buffalo Bills (2017-2018) and WR Coach for the Philadelphia Eagles (1999-2012) & Kansas City Chiefs (2013-2016). Culley was a part of the Eagles team that reached the Super Bowl berth in 2004.
