Full Story on Dave Gettleman Stepping Down as New York Giants General Manager
With Dave Gettleman gone, now is the time for the New York Giants to make a list of top candidates. In fact, the recognizable applicants could be qualified to become the team’s new general manager for the 2022 Season. New York announced Gettleman’s retirement and fired Joe Judge as Head Coach after just two seasons following their season finale loss vs. Washington Football Team. Dave Gettleman had been the team’s architect since 2018, while Judge had been the coach since 2020. Gettleman will depart the Giants with no playoff appearances over the past couple seasons. At the time of the retirement announcement, the Giants were 4-13 overall during the 2021 season.
After finishing in second place in the NFC East Division in 2020, the following season was a step back for the club as they ended up in last place in the division. During the season, the Giants fired Offensive Coordinator Jason Garrett (who was formerly the head coach for the Dallas Cowboys).
Dave Gettleman’s Career with New York Giants & NFL
During his second stint in New Jersey, Dave Gettleman was unable to lead the Giants to any playoff appearances. In fact, the Giants have not been to the playoffs since 2016. To make matters worse, New York has not won a postseason game since the Super Bowl vs. New England Patriots in early 2012. Some of Dave Gettleman’s notable draft selections are the following: QB Daniel Jones (Duke-6th Overall from 2019), RB Saquon Barkley (Penn State-2nd Overall from 2018), and OT Andrew Thomas (Georgia-4th Overall from 2020). Prior to becoming the Giants GM in 2018, Gettleman held a similar position with the Carolina Panthers (2013-2017). He led the Panthers to a Super Bowl appearance in early 2016, but lost to Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos. Gettleman also had his first stint with the Giants as Top Pro Personnel Executive (1999-2012), where he won two Super Bowl titles (2007, 2011).
