Full Story on Brian Kelly Stepping Down as Notre Dame Football Head Coach
With Brian Kelly gone, now is the time for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish to make a list of top candidates. In fact, the recognizable applicants could be qualified to become the team’s new head coach for the 2022 Season. Kelly will be stepping down as Fighting Irish Head Coach after 12 seasons following their victory vs. Stanford. He will become the next head coach for the LSU Tigers, replacing Ed Orgeron. Kelly compiled a 92-39 overall record in the independent league (no assigned conference). At the time of the sudden announcement, the Fighting Irish were 11-1 overall during the 2021 season. Notre Dame ended the regular season on a seven-game winning streak following their lone loss vs. Cincinnati.
During his time in South Bend, Brian Kelly guided the Fighting Irish to 10 bowl games. In fact, Notre Dame advanced to the National Championship Game during the 2012 season (lost to Alabama). However, the Fighting Irish were forced to forfeit their wins from the 2012 and 2013 seasons due to NCAA violations involving the football program. Prior to becoming the Notre Dame head coach in 2010, Kelly held similar positions at Grand Valley State (1991-2003), Central Michigan (2004-2006), and Cincinnati (2006-2009).
