LECOM Park (Pirates): Official Food Menu

The History of Pittsburgh Pirates Spring Training in Bradenton

With the Spring Training Grapefruit League Season underway, the Pittsburgh Pirates are ready to play ball! The Buccos have been training at the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (or LECOM) Park since 1969. Speaking of LECOM Park, the venue is also the home of the Bradenton Marauders of the Florida State League-Single A (formerly Low-A). Before its current name, the Spring Training site was formerly known as McKechnie Field (named after former Pirates Manager Bill McKechnie who led Pittsburgh to a World Series title in 1925).

LECOM Park is a 20-25 minute drive from Ed Smith Stadium, the Spring Training home of the Baltimore Orioles. Since the Pirates came to Bradenton in 1969, the team won a World Series in 1979 and made the playoffs three times during the 2010s decade. Pittsburgh also reached the NLCS on a couple occasions in the early 1990s. However, the team in yellow currently has the longest active playoff drought in the National League (last appearance in 2015).
