Who Are the Laval Rocket? What League Do They Play in?

With the Minor League Hockey Season underway, the Laval Rocket are ready to drop the puck! Laval is an AHL club of the Montreal Canadiens. In addition, they play in the North Division for the Eastern Conference. The Rocket have been a farm team for the Habs since 2015. The franchise previously partnered with the Winnipeg Jets (2011-2015). The Rocket was formerly known as the St. John’s IceCaps (Newfoundland: 2011-2015) until their relocation. Laval has yet to reach the Calder Cup playoffs since the Rocket tenure began in 2017. The team was named after Montreal Canadiens legend Maurice “Rocket” Richard, who has scored 544 goals and won 8 Stanley Cups.

Where do the Laval Rocket Play their Home Games? Who is the Main Mascot?

The Rocket have been playing home games at Place Bell since 2017. Speaking of Place Bell, the 10,000-capacity arena is located in Downtown Laval. The venue is about a 20-25 minute drive from Montreal (home of the NHL’s Canadiens, CFL’s Alouettes, and MLS Soccer’s Impact). Place Bell is also about a 2.0-hour drive from Ottawa (home of the NHL’s Senators and CFL’s Redblacks). The team’s main mascot is Cosmo the Blue Monster.
