The History of KU Jayhawks Basketball at Allen Fieldhouse
With the College Basketball Season around the corner, the Kansas Jayhawks are ready for tip-off! The men in Blue and Crimson have been playing at Allen Fieldhouse since the mid-1950’s. Speaking of Allen Fieldhouse, the venue can hold at least 16,000 fans in capacity. The Jayhawks basketball venue is about a 40-45 minute drive from Kanas City, Missouri (home of the NFL’s Chiefs and MLB’s Royals). Allen Fieldhouse is also located on the University of Kansas campus. The school’s football stadium was named after former Kansas Basketball Head Coach Phog Allen (who led the program to the 1952 National Championship). The men in Blue and Crimson last won a National Title in 2008. Recently, the Jayhawks played in the Men’s National Championship Game in 2012 (lost to Kentucky). Meanwhile, the women’s basketball team reached the Sweet Sixteen twice in 2012 and 2013.
