The History of Kentucky Wildcats Football at Kroger Field
With the College Football Season around the corner, the Kentucky Wildcats are ready for kick-off! The men in Blue and White have been playing at Kroger Field since the mid-1970’s. Speaking of Kroger Field, the venue can hold at least 60,000 fans in attendance. Kentucky’s football venue is about a 1.5-Hour drive from Louisville (home of the Louisville Cardinals and Triple-A Baseball’s Bats). Kroger Field is also located on the University of Kentucky campus. The school’s football stadium was formerly known as Commonwealth Stadium from 1973 until 2017.
Since its opening, the Wildcats football venue has witnessed some of the greatest college football players and coaches in history. Those players are the following: Mark Stoops (head coach), WR Lynn Bowden, LB Josh Allen, WR Randall Cobb, Paul William “Bear” Bryant (head coach), and many more! The men in Blue and White last won a National Championship in 1950. Recently, the Wildcats won the SEC Conference Title in 1976. Kentucky has won three straight bowl games dating back to 2018 (including the 2020 Gator Bowl win vs. N.C. State)
