Kenny Golladay, 1-Time Pro Bowler, Joins New York Giants

Not long after the NFL free agency period began, it appears that one lucky team will be getting a star wide receiver. ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter first reported that the New York Giants have signed Wide Receiver (WR) Kenny Golladay to a multi-year deal. The contract will be for four years and it will be worth about $72 million. Golladay has spent his entire career with the Detroit Lions and received at least 50 first downs in each of the two of his first four campaigns.

Why Did Kenny Golladay Sign with New York?

New York decided to sign Kenny Golladay in order to bolster its roster and improve its playoff chances. The Giants went 6-10 during the 2020 season and barely missed the playoffs. In fact, New York was tied for 2nd place in the NFC East Division along with the Dallas Cowboys. With the newly-acquired WR in the fold, Golladay will get to team up with QB Daniel Jones and WR Darius Slayton.

What Was Golladay’s Tenure with Detroit Like?

Kenny Golladay was the #96 overall pick in the 3rd round by the Lions (out of Northern Illinois) in the 2017 Draft. In the first three seasons, Golladay has played in at least 10 games per season. In fact, the wide receiver was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2019. However, Kenny Golladay was unable to lead Detroit to a postseason berth during his time in Michigan. Also, Golladay only played in five games in 2020 due to injuries to his hip and hamstring. For his 2020 season with the Lions, Kenny Golladay scored two receiving touchdowns and 338 receiving yards.
