The History of NASCAR/IndyCar Racing in Indianapolis, Indiana

With the IndyCar/NASCAR racing seasons around the corner, the Indy 500 Race (200 Laps and 500 Miles) is ready, set & go! Indy 500 Race has been racing at Indianapolis Motor Speedway since 1911. Speaking of “The Brickyard,” the venue is one of the most popular racetracks in the U.S. along with Talladega, Bristol, and Daytona. The Midwest-based racetrack also hosts a NASCAR race in the Summer called the Verizon® 200.

Indianapolis is one of the several racetracks that host multiple NASCAR races in a season along with Charlotte, Talladega, Daytona, Atlanta, Phoenix, Las Vegas, and Bristol. Over the past ten years, the Indy 500 Race was won by some of the most famous IndyCar stars like Helio Castroneves, Dario Franchitti, Juan Pablo Montoya, Takuma Sato & many more! Marcus Ericsson recently won the 2022 race in late May.

Indianapolis Motor Speedway is about a 10-15 minute drive from Downtown Indianapolis (home of the Colts, Pacers, and Indians). The Midwest-based racetrack is also about a 2.5-hour drive from Fort Wayne (home of the TinCaps and Komets/Mad Ants). Indy 500 even has the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum near the venue.
