The History of Hoosiers Football at Memorial Stadium

With the College Football Season finally here, the Hoosiers are ready for kick-off! The men in Crimson and Cream have been playing at Memorial Stadium since the early-1960’s. Speaking of Memorial Stadium, the venue can hold nearly 50,000 fans in capacity. The Hoosiers’ football venue is about a 1.5-hour drive from Downtown Indianapolis (home of the NFL’s Colts, NBA’s Pacers, and WNBA’s Fever). Memorial Stadium is also located on the school’s campus. The school’s football stadium is notable for “Hep’s Rock” (which is a boulder that players and coaches touch before each home game). The rock, located behind the end zone, was named after the late Hoosiers Head Coach Terry Hoeppner.

Since the stadium’s debut, the Hoosiers football venue has witnessed some of the greatest college football players and coaches in history. Those players are the following: Tom Allen (head coach), QB Michael Penix II, RB Anthony Thompson (Heisman Finalist), WR Antwaan Randle El, Lee Corso (head coach), and many more! The men in Crimson and Cream last won a Big Ten Conference Championship in 1967. Since 2015, the Hoosiers have played in four bowl games.
