The History of the Independence Bowl at Independence Stadium

With the College Bowl Season around the corner, the Independence Bowl (C-USA vs. Independent: BYU or Army) is ready for kick-off! The annual December Game has been playing at the Independence Stadium since the mid-1970’s. Speaking of Independence Stadium, the venue can hold at least 50,000 fans in attendance. The bowl’s football venue is about a 10-15 minute drive from Downtown Shreveport, LA. Independence Stadium is also about a 3.0-hour drive from Dallas, TX (home of the NHL’s Stars and NBA’s Mavericks). The venue hosts local high school football games when there’s not a bowl game. The 2020 edition of the bowl was cancelled due to the pandemic that affected players and teams from participating. Over the past several years, the Independence Bowl previously had matchups of the C-USA vs. ACC and C-USA vs. SEC.
