Who Are the Idaho Steelheads? What League Do They Play in?

With the Minor League Hockey Season underway, the Idaho Steelheads are ready to drop the puck! Idaho is an ECHL club of the Dallas Stars. In addition, they play in the Mountain Division for the Western Conference. Idaho has been a farm team for the Stars since 2003. The franchise’s partnership with Dallas is currently the longest player development collaboration in the ECHL. Since the 2003-2004 season, the Steelheads club has won two Kelly Cup championships in 2004 and 2007.

The Steelheads have been playing home games at Idaho Central Arena since 1997. Speaking of Idaho Central Arena, the 5,000-capacity arena is located in Downtown Boise. The venue is about a 5-10 minute drive from Boise State University (home of the Boise State Broncos). Idaho Central Arena was formerly known as CenturyLink Arena from 2011 until 2020. The team’s main mascot is Blue the Brown Bear.
