The History of Houston Cougars Football at TDECU Stadium
With the College Football Season around the corner, the Houston Cougars are ready for kick-off! The men in Scarlet and White have been playing at TDECU Stadium since 2014. Speaking of TDECU Stadium, the venue can hold at least 40,000 fans in attendance. The Cougars’ football venue is about a 5-10 minute drive from Downtown Houston (home of the MLB’s Astros, NBA’s Rockets, and NFL’s Texans). TDECU Stadium is also located on the University of Houston campus. The school’s football stadium is one of the state’s newest stadiums along with McLane Stadium in Waco (home of the Baylor Bears).
In the past, the Cougars football program has witnessed some of the greatest college football players and coaches in history. Those players are the following: Dana Holgorsen (head coach), QB Andre Ware (Heisman Winner), DT Ed Oliver, QB Case Keenum, Major Applewhite (head coach), and many more! The men in Scarlet and White last won a Conference Championship in 2015. Since 2011, the Houston Cougars have played in eight bowl games.
