With the Minor League Hockey Season underway, the Guelph Storm are ready to drop the puck! The Storm are an independent affiliate of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). In fact, the OHL is one of the three leagues in the Canadian Hockey League along with the Quebec Major Junior League and the Western Hockey League. The Storm, who won three Western Conference titles (2004, 2014, 2019) in club history, have been playing in the OHL since 1991. The team was formerly known as the Dukes of Hamilton (Ontario: 1989-1991) before their relocation to Guelph. The Storm currently plays in the Midwest Division (Western Conference) along with the Erie Otters, London Knights, Owen Sound Attack, and Kitchener Rangers.

The Storm have been playing their home games at Sleeman Centre since 2000. Speaking of Sleeman Centre, the 4,500-capacity arena is located in Downtown Guelph not far from the Eramosa River. The venue is about a 1.5-hour drive from Kitchener (home of the OHL’s Kitchener Rangers). In addition, the stadium is about a 1.5-hour drive from Toronto (home of the NHL’s Maple Leafs, NBA’s Raptors, and MLB’s Blue Jays). Sleeman Centre, which is connected to the city’s shopping mall, even has a Guelph Sports Hall of Fame located in the concourse.
