Who Are the Greenville Drive? What League Do They Play in?

With the Minor League Baseball Season (MiLB) underway, the Greenville Drive (based in Greenville, South Carolina) are ready to play ball! The Drive are a High-A Team affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. In addition, they play in the South Division for the High-A East League. The Drive have been a farm club for the Red Sox since 2005. The Minor League Team was named after the fact that Greenville has a couple of auto making plants within the city.

The Drive have been playing their home games at Fluor Field at the West End since 2006. Speaking of Fluor Field at the West End, the 6,500-capacity ballpark is located in Downtown Greenville near the Reedy River. The venue is about a 2.5-hour drive from Atlanta (home of the MLB’s Braves, NBA’s Hawks, NFL’s Falcons, WNBA’s Dream, and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets).

Fluor Field at the West End is also located across the street from the Shoeless Joe Jackson Museum. Jackson, who was infamously banned from baseball for his involvement in the 1919 Black Sox Scandal, was a Greenville native. The Minor League Stadium even has a replica of Fenway Park’s Green Monster at left field. The team’s official mascot is Reedy Rip’it the Green Frog.
