The History of Reds & Guardians Spring Training in Goodyear

With the Spring Training Cactus League Season underway, the Cincinnati Reds and Cleveland Guardians are ready to play ball! The Guardians have been training at the Goodyear Ballpark since 2009, while the Reds have been training there since 2010. Speaking of Goodyear Ballpark, the venue is one of the two Cactus League stadiums that opened in 2009 (Camelback Ranch-Glendale). Both the Reds and Guardians moved to Arizona after spending Florida training in Sarasota and Winter Haven (respectively).

Goodyear Ballpark is about a 20-25 minute drive from Camelback Ranch, the Spring Training home of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago White Sox. The Goodyear stadium is also about a 25-30 minute drive from Downtown Phoenix, the home of the Diamondbacks-MLB and Suns-NBA. Since the Guardians came to the stadium in 2009, the team played in the 2016 World Series (lost to Chicago Cubs). Meanwhile, the Reds reached the playoffs four times since coming to Arizona.
