The History of Tulsa Football at Skelly Field-H.A Chapman Stadium

With the College Football Season around the corner, the Tulsa Golden Hurricane are ready for kick-off! The men in Blue, Red and Gold have been playing at Skelly Field-H.A Chapman Stadium since the early-1930’s. Speaking of H.A. Chapman Stadium, the venue can hold at least 30,000 fans in attendance. Tulsa’s football venue is about a 5-10 minute drive from Downtown Tulsa (home of Minor League Baseball’s Drillers). Skelly Field-H.A Chapman Stadium is also located on the University of Tulsa campus. The school’s football stadium was named after the following donors: local oil businessman William Skelly and local philanthropist H. Allen Chapman.

Since its opening, the Tulsa football venue has witnessed some of the greatest college football players and coaches in history. Those players are the following: Philip Montgomery (head coach), QB Zach Smith, LB Zaven Collins, John Cooper (head coach), and many more! The men in Blue, Red, and Gold last won a Conference title in 2012. Recently, the Golden Hurricane played in the 2020 AAC Championship Game (lost to Cincinnati). Since 2010, Tulsa has played in six bowl games.
