The History of Golden Gophers Football at Huntington Bank Stadium
With the College Football Season around the corner, the Minnesota Golden Gophers are ready for kick-off! The men in maroon and gold have been playing at Huntington Bank Stadium since 2009. Speaking of Huntington Bank Stadium, the venue can hold at least 50,000 fans in attendance. The Golden Gophers football venue is actually not far from Downtown Minneapolis (home of the MLB’s Twins, NBA’s Timberwolves, WNBA’s Lynx, and NFL’s Vikings). Huntington Bank Stadium is also located on the University of Minnesota campus. The school’s football stadium was previously known as the TCF Bank Stadium from 2009 until 2021.
Since its opening, the Golden Gophers football venue has witnessed some of the greatest college football players and coaches in history. Those players are the following: P.J. Fleck (head coach), QB/Future Head Coach Tony Dungy, WR Eric Decker, RB David Cobb, Glen Mason (head coach), RB Marlon Barber III, and many more! The men in maroon and gold last won a claimed National Championship in 1960, though they did win a Co-Division title in 2019.
