The History of Golden Bears Football at California Memorial Stadium

With the College Football Season around the corner, the Golden Bears are ready for kick-off! The men in Gold and Blue have been playing at California Memorial Stadium since the mid-1920’s. Speaking of California Memorial Stadium, the venue can hold at least 60,000 fans in attendance. The team’s football venue is about a 10-15 minute drive from Oakland (home of the MLB’s Athletics). California Memorial Stadium is also located on the University of California-Berkeley campus. The school’s football stadium is also about a 1.0-hour drive from Stanford (home of the Stanford Cardinal).

Since its opening, the Golden Bears football venue has witnessed some of the greatest college football players and coaches in history. Those players are the following: Jeff Tedford (head coach), QB Aaron Rodgers, RB Marshawn Lynch, WR DeSean Jackson, QB Jared Goff, Justin Wilcox (head coach), and many more! The men in Gold and Blue last won a National Championship in 1937. Recently, the Golden Bears played in the Conference title in 2006 (shared). Since 2015, the football program has played in three bowl games.
