The History of Yellow Jackets Football at Bobby Dodd Stadium
With the College Football Season around the corner, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are ready for kick-off! The men in Old Gold and White have been playing at Bobby Dodd Stadium since the mid-1910’s. Speaking of Bobby Dodd Stadium, the venue can hold at least 55,000 fans in attendance. The Yellow Jackets football venue is very close to Downtown Atlanta (home of the NFL’s Falcons, NBA’s Hawks, and the College Football Hall of Fame).
The Georgia Tech venue is also about a 1.5-hour drive from Athens (home of the Georgia Bulldogs). Bobby Dodd Stadium is also located on the Georgia Institute of Technology campus. The school’s football stadium was named after Yellow Jackets Head Coach Bobby Dodd (who guided Georgia Tech to a 1952 National Championship). Georgia Tech is notable for the Ramblin’ Wreck, which is a 1930’s style car that leads the football team onto the field every home game.
Since its opening, the Yellow Jackets football venue has witnessed some of the greatest college football players and coaches in history. Those players are the following: Paul Johnson (head coach), WR Calvin Johnson, WR Demaryius Thomas, OG Shaq Mason, LB Pat Swilling, Bobby Dodd (head coach), QB Justin Thomas, and many more! The men in Old Gold and White last won a National Championship in 1990. Also, the Yellow Jackets recently played in the ACC Championship Game in 2009.
