The History of Georgia Tech Basketball at McCamish Pavilion
With the College Basketball Season around the corner, the Yellow Jackets are ready for tip-off! The men in yellow have been playing at McCamish Pavilion since the mid-1950’s. Speaking of McCamish Pavilion, the venue can hold over 8,500 fans in capacity. The Ramblin’ Wreck basketball venue is about a 4-6 minute drive from Downtown Atlanta (home of the NBA’s Hawks and NFL’s Falcons). The basketball building is also located on the school’s campus very close to Russ Chandler Stadium (baseball).
The arena was named in honor of 2010’s renovations donor and alumni Hank McCamish. Also, the venue was previously known as the Alexander Memorial Coliseum from 1956 until 2012 when remodeling plans took place. For men’s basketball, the Yellow Jackets last reached the National Championship Game in 2004. Meanwhile, the women’s squad recently played in the Sweet 16 in 2021. The men’s program took part in the March Madness only twice since 2010, while the women’s team made six such appearances during that span.
