In addition, they play in the East Division for the High-A Central League. The TinCaps have been an affiliate for San Diego since 1999. The franchise was formerly known as the Fort Wayne Wizards from 1993 until 2008. The TinCaps were named after former Fort Wayne resident Johnny Appleseed. The American legend was a 19th century pioneer who wore tin caps on his head and introduced planting apple trees in the Midwest states, including Indiana.
