Julio Jones Traded to Tennessee Titans in Multi-Pick Deal
Just over a month after the 2021 NFL Draft, it appears that one lucky team will be getting a star wide receiver. ESPN reported over the weekend that the Atlanta Falcons have traded WR Julio Jones and a 2023 6th Round Pick to the Tennessee Titans. Atlanta will receive the following in return: a 2022 2nd round pick, and a 2023 4th round selection.
Why Did the Falcons Trade Julio Jones?
Atlanta decided to trade Jones due to the wide receiver’s displeasure with the team. Julio Jones recently said in an interview that he wanted out of Atlanta and expressed desire to play for a contending team. The Falcons finished the 2020 season with a 4-12 record and witnessed the firing of Head Coach Dan Quinn during the campaign. Meanwhile, the Tennessee Titans acquired the former Alabama product in order to contend in the AFC Conference. In fact, Jones will now join the Titans’ offensive roster with RB Derrick Henry and QB Ryan Tannehill.
What Was Julio Jones’ Tenure with Atlanta Like?
Jones was the #6 overall pick by the Falcons (out of Alabama) in the 2011 Draft. The wide receiver led Atlanta to four playoff appearances, including a Super Bowl Berth during the 2016 season. Jones was also named to the Pro-Bowl seven times throughout his career. For his 2020 season with the Falcons, Julio Jones received 771 yards with 3 touchdowns and 51 receptions. He only played in nine games that year due to a hamstring injury.
