Who Are the Everett Silvertips? What League Do They Play in?

With the Minor League Hockey Season underway, the Everett Silvertips are ready to drop the puck! Everett is an independent affiliate of the Western Hockey League (WHL). In fact, the WHL is one of the three leagues in the Canadian Hockey League along with the Quebec Major Junior League and the Ontario Hockey League. The Silvertips (named after a grizzly bear species) been playing in the WHL since 2003. Everett played in the 2018 Ed Chynoweth Cup Finals, but lost to the Swift Current Broncos in six games. In addition, they played in the Western Conference Finals during the 2005-2006 season. Since 2010, Everett has reached the WHL Playoffs ten times.

The Silvertips have been playing their home games at Angel of the Winds Arena since 2003. Speaking of Angel of the Winds Arena, the 8,000-capacity arena is located in Downtown Everett (home of Minor League Baseball’s Everett AquaSox). The venue is also about a 30-minute drive from Seattle (home of the NHL’s Kraken, MLB’s Mariners, WNBA’s Storm, and NFL’s Seahawks). Angel of the Winds Arena was formerly known as Xfinity Arena (2014-2017) and Comcast Arena (2007-2014). The team’s main mascot is Lincoln the Silvertip.
