The History of Edmonton Oilers Hockey at Rogers Place
With the NHL Hockey season underway, the Edmonton Oilers are ready for puck-drop! The Oilers have been playing home games at Rogers Place since 2016. Speaking of Rogers Place, the venue can hold at least 18,000 hockey fans in capacity. The team’s venue is located in Downtown Edmonton. Rogers Place is also about a 5-10 minute drive from Commonwealth Stadium (home of CFL’s Edmonton Elks).
The venue was the site of the 2020 Stanley Cup Finals (Lightning vs. Stars) due to the global health crisis. Before the venue opened, the Oilers won five Stanley Cups (1984, 1985, 1987, 1988, 1990). In fact, the last time Edmonton played in the Stanley Cup Finals was back in 2006. Since Rogers Place opened, the Oilers reached the playoffs three times. Edmonton recently advanced to the 2022 West Finals, but lost to the eventual NHL champion Colorado Avalanche.
