The History of the Blue Devils Basketball at Cameron Indoor Stadium
With the College Basketball Season around the corner, the Duke Blue Devils are ready for tip-off! The men in blue and white have been playing at Cameron Indoor Stadium since the early 1940’s. Speaking of Cameron Indoor Stadium, the venue can hold at least 9,000 fans in capacity. The Blue Devils basketball venue is about a 0.5-hour drive from Raleigh (home of the NC State Wolf Pack & NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes). The basketball building is also located on the school’s campus close to Jack Coombs Field (baseball) and Wallace Wade Stadium (football).
The arena was named in honor of Eddie Cameron, who was the head coach for the men’s basketball program from 1928 until 1942. In fact, Cameron Indoor Stadium has a Basketball Museum that pays tribute to Mike Krzyzewski and the team’s many accomplishments. For men’s basketball, the Blue Devils last won a national championship in 2015. Meanwhile, the squad recently advanced to the Sweet 16 in 2018. The men’s program took part in the March Madness eleven times since 2010, while the women’s team made eight such appearances during that span.
