Who Are the Down East Wood Ducks? What League Do They Play in?

With the Minor League Baseball Season (MiLB) underway, the Down East Wood Ducks (based in Kinston, NC) are ready to play ball! The Wood Ducks are a Single-A Team for the Texas Rangers. In addition, they play in the North Division for the Carolina League. The Wood Ducks have been a farm club for the Rangers since its inception in 2017.

The Down East franchise was named after the Wood Duck, which its species are commonly located in the Carolinas. The city of Kinston was the former home of the Kinston Indians (1987-2011), a farm team for the Cleveland Indians, until the club relocated to Zebulon, NC to become the Carolina Mudcats.

Where do the Down East Wood Ducks Play their Home Games? Who is the Official Mascot?

The Wood Ducks have been playing their home games at Grainger Stadium since 2017. Speaking of Grainger Stadium, the 4,000-capacity ballpark is located near Downtown Kinston (which is close to the Neuse River). The ballpark is about a one-hour drive from Zebulon, NC (home of the Carolina Mudcats). Grainger Stadium is one America’s oldest active minor league ballparks as the venue opened in 1949. The stadium was also the home of the Kinston Indians from 1987 until the team’s relocation in 2011. The team’s official mascot is Dewd the Green Wood Duck.
