The History of College Football at Cotton Bowl Stadium

With the College Bowl Season around the corner, the Cotton Bowl Stadium is ready for kick-off! The annual Red River Showdown (Oklahoma vs. Texas) has been playing at the Cotton Bowl Stadium since the early-1930’s. Speaking of Cotton Bowl Stadium, the venue can hold at least 90,000 fans in attendance. The bowl’s football venue is about a 30-minute drive from Arlington (home of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys and MLB’s Texas Rangers). Cotton Bowl Stadium is also about a 5-10 minute drive from Downtown Dallas (home of the NHL’s Stars and NBA’s Mavericks).

The venue recently hosted the 2020 NHL Winter Classic (Stars vs. Predators), which was the last such event for the league before the global pandemic hit. The stadium was formerly the home of the Cotton Bowl before the bowl game relocated to Arlington in 2010. Cotton Bowl Stadium also hosted the First Responder Bowl from 2011 until 2018 when the game moved to the SMU Mustangs campus in the North Dallas area.
