The History of the Tigers Basketball at Littlejohn Coliseum
With the College Basketball Season around the corner, the Clemson Tigers are ready for tip-off! The men in orange and white have been playing at Littlejohn Coliseum since the late 1960’s. Speaking of Littlejohn Coliseum, the venue can hold at least 9,000 fans in capacity. The Tigers basketball venue is about a 2.0-hour drive from Atlanta (home of the MLB’s Braves, NBA’s Hawks & NFL’s Falcons). The basketball building is also located on the school’s campus adjacent to Memorial Stadium (home of the university’s football team).
The arena was named in honor of James Corcoran Littlejohn, who was Clemson’s athletics program manager during the early 1900’s. In fact, Littlejohn Coliseum underwent major renovations in 2016 that saw new video boards and practice facilities. For men’s basketball, the Tigers last reached the Men’s Sweet 16 in 2018. Meanwhile, the women’s squad recently advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2019. The men’s program took part in the March Madness four times since 2010, while the women’s team only made one such appearance during that span.
