The History of the Citrus Bowl at Camping World Stadium
With the College Bowl Season around the corner, the Citrus Bowl (SEC vs. Big 10) is ready for kick-off! The annual New Year’s Bowl Game has been playing at Camping World Stadium since the mid-1940’s. Speaking of Camping World Stadium, the venue can hold at least 60,000 fans in attendance. The bowl’s football venue is located near Downtown Orlando, FL (home of the NBA’s Magic, ECHL Hockey’s Solar Bears, and MLS Soccer’s Orlando City SC). Camping World Stadium is also about a 20-25 minute drive from the UCF’s main campus. The venue hosts three bowl games every year: Citrus Bowl, Cure Bowl, and Cheez-It Bowl (previously Camping World and Russell Athletic). Camping World Stadium was the former home of the UCF Knights football (1979-2006) and Orlando City SC (2011-2016). The venue was previously known as the Citrus Bowl from 1983 until 2016.
