The History of NASCAR Racing in Austin, Texas

With the NASCAR racing season around the corner, the Texas Grand Prix (68 Laps and 232 Miles) is ready, set & go! Texas Grand Prix has been racing at Circuit of the Americas since 2021. Speaking of Circuit of the Americas, the venue opened in Fall 2012. The Austin-based racetrack is one of the couple NASCAR venues that hosts a less-than-100 lap-race along with the Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth (All-Star Race Open with 50 laps in May) and the Road America track in Wisconsin (Kwik Trip 250 with 62 laps in July).

Circuit of the Americas is about a 20-25 minute drive from University of Texas (home of the Texas Longhorns). The Texas-based racetrack is also about a 25-30 minute drive from Q2 Stadium (home of MLS Soccer’s Austin FC). Since the Texas Grand Prix race began in 2021, the inaugural race was won by Chase Elliott!
