Charlotte Sports Park (Rays): Official Food Menu
The History of Tampa Bay Rays Spring Training in Port Charlotte
With the Spring Training Grapefruit League Season underway, the Tampa Bay Rays are ready to play ball! The Rays have been training at the Charlotte Sports Park since 2009. Speaking of Charlotte Sports Park, the venue was also the home of the Charlotte Stone Crabs of the Florida State League-Low A (2009-2020). The Stone Crabs’ mascot was Clawford the Stone Crab. Before the Rays’ tenure with the venue, the ballpark served as the Spring Training home of the Texas Rangers (1987-2002) before the Arlington-based team relocated to Arizona.
Charlotte Sports Park is a 20-25 minute drive from CoolToday Park, the Spring Training home of the Atlanta Braves. Since the Rays came to the stadium in 2009, the team played in the 2020 World Series and made the playoffs eight times. Tampa Bay also saw two Cy Young Award winners in David Price (2012) and Blake Snell (2020). However, the team held Spring Training at Champion Stadium (Lake Buena Vista) and Tropicana Field (St. Petersburg) in 2023 due to the Port Charlotte venue being damaged by Hurricane Ian five months earlier.
