Who Are the Charleston Dirty Birds? What League Do They Play in?

With the Minor League Baseball Season (MiLB) underway, the Charleston Dirty Birds (based in Lexington, KY) are ready to play ball! The Dirty Birds are an Independent Baseball Team for the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball (Partner of the MLB). In addition, Charleston plays in the South Division for the League. The Dirty Birds were a Class-A club for the Seattle Mariners (2019-2020), Pittsburgh Pirates (2009-2018), and Milwaukee Brewers (2005-2008). The franchise was formerly known as the West Virginia Power from 2005 until 2021. The Dirty Birds are on of the couple non-MLB teams based in West Virginia along with the West Virginia Black Bears (MLB Draft League).

Where do the Charleston Dirty Birds Play their Home Games? Who is the Official Mascot?

The Dirty Birds have been playing their home games at GoMart Ballpark since 2005. Speaking of GoMart Ballpark, the 4,500-capacity ballpark is about a 1.0-hour drive from the Marshall University campus (home of the Marshall Thundering Herd). In fact, the stadium is also about a 2.5-hour drive from Morgantown (home of the West Virginia Mountaineers). The venue also serves as the home of the Marshall baseball program. GoMart Ballpark was formerly known as Appalachian Power Park from 2005 until 2022. During the WV Power era, the team’s official mascot was Chuck the Yellow Monster. With the recent rebrand, the new mascot will likely be a dirty canary bird.
