Who Are the Cedar Rapids Kernels? What League Do They Play in?

With the Minor League Baseball Season (MiLB) underway, the Cedar Rapids Kernels (based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa) are ready to play ball! The Kernels are a High-A Team affiliate of the Minnesota Twins. In addition, they play in the West Division for the High-A Central League. The Kernels have been an affiliate for the Twins since 2013.

Cedar Rapids is one of the couple Iowa cities that host professional baseball: the Iowa Cubs (Triple-A, Des Moines) and Quad Cities River Bandits (High-A, Davenport). The team was named after the fact that Iowa is one of the country’s top growers for corn.

Where do the Cedar Rapids Kernels Play their Home Games? Who is the Official Mascot?

They have been playing their home games at Veterans Memorial Stadium since 2002. Speaking of Veterans Memorial Stadium, the 5,000-capacity ballpark is located near Downtown Cedar Rapids (which is near the Cedar River). The stadium is also about a 2-hour drive from Des Moines (home of the Iowa Cubs of Triple-A Baseball). The team’s official mascot is Mr. Shucks.
