The History of Calgary Stampeders Football
With the CFL Football Season underway, the Calgary Stampeders are ready for kick-off! The Stampeders have been playing at McMahon Stadium since the early 1960’s. Speaking of McMahon Stadium, the venue can hold nearly 35,000 fans in attendance. The Stampeders football venue is about a 10-15 minute drive from Downtown Calgary (home of the NHL’s Flames). The Stampeders last won a Grey Cup championship in 2018, their third such title since 2008. Calgary’s football stadium also served as the home of the 1988 Winter Olympics. The Stampeders venue was named after local businessman Frank McMahon (who donated funds to construct the stadium).
