The History of Calgary Flames Hockey at Scotiabank Saddledome

With the NHL Hockey season underway, the Calgary Flames are ready for puck-drop! The Flames have been playing home games at Scotiabank Saddledome since 1983. Speaking of Scotiabank Saddledome, the venue can hold at least 19,000 hockey fans in capacity. The team’s venue is located in Downtown Calgary. Scotiabank Saddledome is also about a 15-20 minute drive from McMahon Stadium (home of CFL’s Stampeders and the 1988 Winter Olympics).

The venue was formerly known as Pengrowth Saddledome from 2000 until 2010. The Flames won the Stanley Cup in 1988 and played in the Stanley Cup Finals in 2004. The team was previously known as the Atlanta Flames (based in Georgia) until their relocation to Calgary in the early 1980’s.
