The History of NASCAR Racing in Bristol, Tennessee

With the NASCAR racing season around the corner, the Food City Dirt Race (250 Laps and 133 Miles) is ready, set & go! Food City Dirt Race has been racing at Bristol Motor Speedway since 1961. Speaking of the Last Great Colosseum, the venue opened in the early 1960’s. The Tennessee-based racetrack was formerly a concrete race before switching to dirt road in 2021. Over the past ten years, the Food City Dirt Race was won by some of the most famous NASCAR stars like Joey Logano, Kyle Busch, Carl Edwards, Jimmie Johnson & many more!

Bristol Motor Speedway is about a 2.0-hour drive from Knoxville (home of the Tennessee Volunteers). The Tennessee-based racetrack is also about a 1.5-hour drive from Asheville (home of the Asheville Tourists). Interestingly, the NASCAR venue is nearly 15 minutes away from the Virginia/Tennessee state line.
