The History of BC Lions Football/Whitecaps Soccer at BC Place
With the CFL Football/MLS Soccer Seasons underway, the BC Lions and Vancouver Whitecaps FC are ready for kick-off! The Lions have been playing at BC Place since the 1980’s, while the Whitecaps began playing there in 2011. Speaking of BC Place, the venue can hold nearly 50,000 football fans and 20,000 soccer fans in attendance. The Lions/Whitecaps venue is very close to Rogers Arena (home of the NHL’s Vancouver Canucks). The BC Lions last won a Grey Cup championship in 2011, while the Whitecaps recently made the MLS Playoffs in 2017. Vancouver’s multi-purpose stadium also served as the home of the 2010 Winter Olympics. BC Place also hosted the 2014 Heritage Classic (an outdoor hockey event-Canucks vs. Senators).
