The History of BSU Football at Scheumann Stadium
With the College Football Season officially underway, the Cardinals are ready for kick-off! The men in red have been playing at Scheumann Stadium since the late-1960’s. Speaking of Scheumann Stadium, the venue can hold more than 22,000 fans in capacity. The Cardinals football venue is about a 1.5-hour drive from Indianapolis (home of the NFL’s Colts, NBA’s Pacers, WENBA’s Fever, and Triple-A Baseball’s Indians). The football building is also located on the school’s campus very close to First Merchants Ballpark (baseball).
The field was named in honor of two university donors and alumni: John and June Scheumann. In addition, the venue underwent renovations in 2007 that saw a new FieldTurf playing surface as well as a constructed media center. For football, the Cardinals last won a MAC Conference title in 2020. In fact, Ball State won its first bowl game in program history when the team claimed the 2020 Arizona Bowl vs. San Jose State. Since 2010, the BSU Cardinals have reached four college bowl game appearances.
