The History of Arizona State Football at Sun Devil Stadium
With the College Football Season around the corner, the Arizona State Sun Devils are ready for kick-off! The men in Maroon and Gold have been playing at Sun Devil Stadium since the late-1950’s. Speaking of Sun Devils Stadium, the venue can hold at least 50,000 fans in attendance. Arizona State’s football venue is about a 15-20 minute drive from Phoenix (home of the MLB’s Diamondbacks, NBA’s Suns, and WNBA’s Mercury). Sun Devil Stadium is also located on the Arizona State University campus. The school’s football stadium was formerly the home of the NFL’s Cardinals from 1988 until 2005 and hosted the Super Bowl in early 1996.
Since its opening, the Sun Devils football venue has witnessed some of the greatest college football players and coaches in history. Those players are the following: Herm Edwards (head coach), DE Terrel Suggs, QB Jake Plummer, S Pat Tillman, Frank Kush (head coach), QB Brock Osweiler, RB Larry Johnson, and many more! The men in Maroon and Gold last won a Conference Championship in 2007 (shared). Recently, the Sun Devils played in the Pac-12 Championship in 2013.
