Who Are the Aberdeen IronBirds? What League Do They Play in?

With the Minor League Baseball Season (MiLB) underway, the Aberdeen IronBirds (based in Aberdeen, Maryland) are ready to play ball! The IronBirds are a High-A Team affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles. In addition, they play in the North Division for the High-A East League. The IronBirds have been a farm club for the Orioles since 2002. The Minor League Team was formerly known as the Utica Blue Sox (based in new York) from 1977 until 2001. Aberdeen’s baseball club was named after Baltimore legend Cal Ripken Jr.’s “Ironman” Streak of consecutive games played in a big league career. The team went with the “Birds” due to the fact that the Orioles are birds.

Where do the Aberdeen IronBirds Play their Home Games? Who is the Official Mascot?

The IronBirds have been playing their home games at Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium since 2002. Speaking of Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium, the 6,000-capacity ballpark is located outside Downtown Aberdeen near the John F. Kennedy Memorial Highway. The venue is also very close to the Ripken Experience Baseball Academy. Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium is about a 40-50 minute drive from Baltimore (home of the MLB’s Orioles and NFL’s Ravens). The team’s official mascots are Ferrous the Grey-Beaked Bird and Ripcord the Yellow-Beaked Bird.
