With the Minor League Hockey Season underway, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins are ready to drop the puck! Wilkes-Barre/Scranton is an AHL club of the Pittsburgh Penguins. In addition, they play in the Atlantic Division for the Eastern Conference. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton has been a farm team for the Penguins since 1999. The franchise was formerly known as the Cornwall Aces (Ontario: 1993-1996) and was affiliated with the Quebec City Nordiques/Colorado Avalanche. The Penguins have reached the Calder Cup Finals in 2001, 2004, and 2008 (losing all three times).

The Penguins have been playing home games at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza since 1999. Speaking of Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza, the 8,000-capacity arena is located near Wilkes-Barre Township. The venue is about a 20-25 minute drive from PNC Field (home of Minor League Baseball’s Scranton/WB RailRiders). Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza is also about a 1.5-hour drive from Allentown, PA (home of the AHL’s Lehigh Valley Phantoms). The team’s main mascot is Tux the Penguin.
