The History of Rebels Football at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium
With the College Football Season around the corner, the Ole Miss Rebels are ready for kick-off! The men in Red and Blue have been playing at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium since the mid-1910’s. Speaking of Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, the venue can hold at least 60,000 fans in attendance. The Rebels’ football venue is about a 2.0-hour drive from Starkville (home of the Mississippi State Bulldogs). Vaught-Hemingway Stadium is also located on the University of Mississippi campus. The school’s football stadium was named after former Ole Miss head coach Johnny Vaught (1947-1970) and Athletics Chairman Judge William Hemingway.
Since its opening, the Rebels football venue has witnessed some of the greatest college football players and coaches in history. Those players are the following: Johnny Vaught (head coach), QB Eli Manning, OT Lamery Tunsil, QB Archie Manning, Lane Kiffin (head coach), and many more! The men in Red and Blue last won the National Championship in 1962. Recently, the Rebels won the SEC Conference title in 1963. Ole Miss won the 2021 Outback Bowl in Tampa, Florida vs. Indiana.
