The History of Salt Lake Bees Baseball at Smith’s Ballpark

With the Minor League Baseball Season (MiLB) underway, the Salt Lake Bees are ready to play ball! The Bees are a Triple-A Team for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. In addition, they play in the West Division for the Pacific Coast League starting in 2022. For 2021, Salt Lake played in the same division for the Triple-A West League. 2022 will be the club’s 21st season as an MiLB affiliation club for the Angels as their farm system partnership began in 2001. Before changing the club’s “Bees” name in 2006, the Minor League team was known as the Salt Lake Stingers.

The Stingers/Bees have been playing their home games at Smith’s Ballpark since their inaugural season began in 1994. Speaking of Smith’s Ballpark, the 14,000-capacity ballpark is located just several miles south of downtown Salt Lake City. The stadium is about a 7-10 minute drive from Vivint Arena (home of the NBA’s Utah Jazz). Smith’s Ballpark was previously known as Spring Mobile Ballpark from 2009 until 2014. The Bees’ venue hosted two Triple-A All-Star Games in its history: 1996 and 2011. The team’s official mascot is Bumble the Bee.
